I have a peculiar problem. I have long been a user of Zone Alarm Pro (ZAP)
and Norton AV (NAV). I run both under WinXP Pro. All have been quite
compatible and no problems.

Earlier this week ZAP came out with a new version (went from 4.5 to 5.0). I
installed the new version of ZAP and immediately NAV was no longer able to
scan my emails (incoming or outgoing). NAV still recognized viruses in the
emails but only when I tried to open attachments (I used a non-virus test
virus, not a real one...). It did not scan, nor did the usual scanning icon
appear in my tray.

According to the ZAP web site, this is a known issue with NAV and ZAP 5.0.
Too bad they didn't tell me BEFORE I installed. Oh well. According to the
ZAP FAQ, while ZoneLabs works on a fix, they suggest rolling back to ZAP
version 4.5 (i.e. the one I had previously and that worked fine with NAV).

However, no matter what version of ZAP I now install (the new one known to
be incompatible, or the old one that used to be 100% compatible) I cannot
get NAV to scan emails. NAV works fine if ZAP is uninstalled completely, but
as soon as I try to install ANY version of ZAP, NAV's email scanning dies. I
even tried a system restore but to no avail.

Can anyone point me to a way to get my old email scanning functionality back
without having to dump ZAP altogether?

Thanks to all.

Michael
