I just read about this in "First Look" MS Office 2003,
Microsoft Press, Katherine Murray.
You old Outlook HAS to go if you want the new one.
Everything else is a personal preference.
When you start the installation, pick CUSTOM install.
It says you need to figure out if any of your particular needs
require the older version(s)... (Will<?> some of your data type files
be broken in a newer version.) If so, you CAN do a "side by side"
install of the new one and keep the old...
One thing they caution about is that you can get lost in the
installation configuration screens, so they say you should
write a little chart to keep track of what you want new, and
what you want to remove...
The biggest caution is about putting back an older version
if you later decide if you needed it. They say that can be very
difficult.
And get the first<?> patch...
