Peter, I even tried deleting the string name as well and no effect. However,
only this morning I found my own solution (trial and error). Remember I'm
running ME now. I went to Control Panel, Taskbar and Menu (icon) which brought
the usual looking taskbar panel. I chose Advanced (and did not got to the next
Advanced) and noted that at the bottom of the panel were some choices.
Scrolling down I saw an entry for "Scroll Programs" which was unchecked. Since
it was unchecked, what the heck, I'll check it and see what it does. Hit Apply
and then went to Start Menu and sure enough, now my menu was one long long menu
rather than in columns! Finally a solution.
Thanks for offering what I thought I was looking for--the regedit route.
