You have at least a couple of options here. Your actual contact list
doesn't include the <UIN>msg.dat and <UIN>msg.idx files, (where "<UIN>"
is your User ID), so technically you probably don't need to back those
up at all. Those files contain your saved messages from/to each of your
contacts. (Why your files get larger as you delete messages is a mystery
to me, since all of the ones I've seen have gotten smaller in direct
proportion to the number of messages that are deleted.)

You can back up all of the ICQ/Db/ files except <UIN>msg.dat and
<UIN>msg.idx, and those will easily fit on a floppy, or you can back up
the entire ICQ/Db folder, including the *msg.* files, to a safe place on
your hard drive. Alternatively, you might try zipping the entire folder
in the hopes that it will compress to a size that will fit on a floppy.

One last thing: ICQ has an option to completely turn off message logging
if it's a feature you don't use, need, or want. Turning that off would
ensure that your files will always fit on a floppy.
