Hi Michael,
I don't know which version of Task Manager you have, but mine doesn't
have a task column in it anywhere -at least not under selectable columns.
As to Firefox not starting - you could try the following:
1.Check Event Viewer for possible conflicts.
2.Clear Firefox's Cache file (Temp Internet files)
Since you can't run Firefox, use CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com
Under Applications you'll find a section for Firefox.
You can do this manually as well (but CCleaner is easier)
For your info only:
You'll find the temp internet files:
In your Firefox profile's cache folder.
Default Mozilla profile folder locations:

Temporary Internet File : How to delete Temporary Internet Files

If this doesn't help ,you may have a corruption in your profile.
But first let's see if the above helped.

We have a laptop running WIN XP Home and for some reason Mozilla Firefox
will no longer start up. The files are all intact in C:\Program
Files\Mozilla Firefox, but when you click on the executable, nothing
happens. The Windows Task Manager says the status is "running", but the
task column says "Mozilla Firefox will not start up".
Help!!!
