This is a known problem with 95b. I've heard it blamed on FAT32,
which 95b introduced, but it doesn't sound to me like you're using
that.

"Previous version of DOS" doesn't know how to deal with 95b, so it
helpfully overwrites the boot files for you, rendering the drive
unbootable. You have to use the SYS command to reinstall the Win95
boot files -- you may need to get them from another bootable disk.

This suggests you're not using FAT32.

Okay, you have a Win95 boot floppy; you should be able to use SYS
to copy the boot files from there.

FWIW, this appears to only apply to "upgrade" installations of 95b
(not officially sanctioned by Microsoft...). If you do a "clean
install", the "Previous version of DOS" entry will not appear on the
menu.
