Several members have written privately to me about this, so I hope this
clears up some of the confusion.
Microsoft now has four completely different Windows products in development.
And all are due for release sometime next year.
1. "WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL" which will replace NT Workstation.
2. "WINDOWS 2000 SERVER FAMILY" which will replace NT Server.
3. "WINDOWS CONSUMER" which will replace Windows 9x.
4. "WINDOWS CONSUMER NT" which is sooo new (according to Mr. Nichols) that
there is no information available at all.
The last two items, the CONSUMER versions, were unveiled in an interview
with Mike Nichols last week. These two products are so new, that MS has
very little information on their web site. Just a couple of transcripts
from the trials which make a very brief reference/mention of the Windows
Consumer product line.
