<<<< So I switched to Windows 10. This plays everything fine, however, I still have no Windows sounds, well, I do have some but not the Windows Start Up and Shut Down>>>>
Hi,
by windows 10 i presume you refer to windows media player version 10, though i do not see any connection with your problem of not getting "program alert sounds". but of course it will help in playing other audio since you seem to be having problems with "creative player".
it is clear your operating system is win xp and so..
when you access the "sounds and audio properties" dialog box and click on "sounds",you will get 3 boxes.
(1) at the top--- (sound scheme)--here you will get 2 options--windows default and none. set this to windows default.
(2) in the middle--(prog.events)---here you choose the prog. for which you want a sound alert.
(3) at the bottom--(sounds)--- here you will get the "path" to the sound associated with the prog. you have chosen. if there is no association you will get a "none" entry. make sure this box shows a path.
finally after playing the "trial", click "apply" (i am sorry if i sound foolish for suggesting such a simple step)
HTH and for your problem with creative player.....
does it show up in "add/remove programs"?
did you remove it through this or its own uninstaller?
what is the audio controller listed in device manager under "sound, video and game controllers"
sorry to be asking more questions than giving fixes but these help.
good luck---Venkat
