:Sorry for this dumb question ... how do you control the date and time format

I do not know what your trying to control but you can specify how the DIR
is sorted with a switch....for example to sort by date and time, earliest
first ...DIR /OD...or latest first DIR /O -D.

There is none. You can get information on commands and switches ....similar
to Dos 6X Fasthelp....by typing the command and then /?....for example DIR
/?...but this is all the documentation you will find in Win9X.

Microsoft abandoned the DOS help file with Win95. However you can still
load the old Dos help file from DOS 6.X while running DOS 7X although many
of the commands no longer exist and there are a few new
ones...........still it can be very useful . You will have to get it from
DOS 6.X directory along with Qbasic.....put the files in their own
directory....... and then write a batch file to load it.
