Perhaps you have automatic monthly cleanups scheduled. Whatever, it seems
that something has emptied your history data, probably the result of some
"cleanup" activity. Check your Task Scheduler (Control Panel/Admin
tools/Services) and disable the service if need be. Or perhaps you have
some other software set to do cleanups.

If that's the case, it can't be restored without special undelete software,
even then it's slow and tricky and often not possible if anything else has
been written to the hard drive.

I've done the same thing myself in a cleanup frenzy, acting before thinking.

The other possibility is that something (perhaps a Windows update) has
re-set the security settings in your browser to delete history each time
the browser is closed. Check your security settings in IE7. Browser
history is a possible security risk, as it can be read by trojans and the
info sent to spammers. For example, if you have recently visited carsales
sites, you could expect to be bombarded by 1000's of spam emails about cars
should you be infected by a spam trojan.
