Mark,

The files on the Windows disks are compressed.  You can not simply
rename them.  They must be uncompressed using the EXPAND.EXE
command which is on disk #5 or #6 (I think) or maybe #1.

The format for the command (in Joseph's case) is:
EXPAND A:\CARDFILE.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\CARDFILE.EXE

There is are two other compressed files needed by the cardfile
program, they are CARDS.DL_  and CARDFILE.HL_
