I don't remember the gist of the original message about the difference
in these files but have been reading the mail about them.
The main difference concerns what you are going to do t
with them.
For backgrounds in Windows or to use the old PC Paint you need a .bmp.
For pictures on the web you need a .jpg or .gif.
.bmp pictures do not resize well. They retain the same number of
pixels whether you enlarge them or shrink them. That does not make
for a good picture.
.jpg makes a good picture and small file size as compared to .bmp.
