   Kate, I had the same problem opening PowerPoint documents.  Locate one of these saved attachments, right click on it and click on Properties.  In the box "Opens with..." click on change and hopefully the program you want to use will be in the program box (if not, try the browse key).  Select the program you want and click OK.
