==============================

Good Afternoon Bob,

Thanks for letting me/us know that CROA did the trick for you, as I knew it would. CROA (Clear Read-Only Attributes) is an elegant solution to an oft-encountered pesky problem. Simply gather all those 'read-only' attribute files into a single folder, right click the folder to bring up CROA in the right context menu, select CROA and all those files are cleared of the the 'read-only' bit faster than an ice cube melts on a 120 degree day at Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport.

The other response to your original post sent by Russell Poffenberger (one of the moderators for PCBUILD & PCSOFT) contains good advice, too. Zipping up (compressing for those of you who don't necessarily use WinZip or PKZIP) your files before burning them to a CD or DVD means that only the compressed file and not its contents have the 'read-only' attribute applied. The important thing to note is that everything inside the zipped file is as it was in its' original state before transfer: this includes most importantly the time-stamp information of each individual file that would otherwise be altered if burned directly to external media.

I assume you have but if not, please be sure to post the reply you sent directly to me to the PCSOFT mailing list, too. That way everybody's kept in the loop, everybody learns, and the mailing list functions as designed.

One last thing, don't forget to drop CROA's developer a brief note of thanks! I remain,

Very truly yours,
Jeffrey Ottie
