Himem.sys sure exists, but it is not loaded because you have a bad memory
chip.
You should not work with this system as it is now, it is not safe. If you
continue
to work without removing/replacing the bad memory chip, chances are that
your
system will crash at any moment loosing your work or your data. In addition,
no
device requiring XMS memory will load.

Got the following error messages from failed startup

"Himem.sys has detected unreliable XMS memory at address -1800000. XMS
driver not installed."

"Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device number 3..."

"Himem.sys is missing."

Himem.sys exists at C:\windows, but is not recognized. File deleted and
reinstalled. No help. "Dir" in DOS shows file, but "attrib" is not
recognized.

No-Spin archive gives two modifications to autoexec.bat and config.sys to
correct problem, but "edit" is not recognized. "Type" shows the files.

What now? Will not start in Safe Mode.
