From what I understand the + format is the most compatible. But most recent DVD
players can read both formats. Go to Circuit City or a similar type of store and
try out your disk. It might just be a bad disk. Can your computer read the
disk? I have no idea why a standard can not be established. It might not matter
anyway since a new standard compatible with HDTV is just around the corner. Like
beta vs. vhs, + vs -, there will be competing standards.

What's the latest on +/- compatibility issues: computer read/write, player read,
standalone DVD recorder read/write?
And why can't they settle on a standard?

Note: More than likely the machine will not copy tapes that are copy-protected.
