I refuse to pay any more tribute to the robber baron who rules MS, so I am
Office-2000-ignorant.

An alternate method is via Internet Explorer.
Open IE and click TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS - PROGRAMS
and set the option for your DEFAULT EMAIL program on that screen.
