well, "staying in there" is what gives business to makers of "recovery software" (some of them very very expensive) i suppose!!(GRIN)

as far as i know, writing "zeroes" to the disk before formatting is a better method of erasing data and then there are "military standards" for erasure which is much more stringent.

but 100% foolproof is to put the hdd in an incinarator or smash it to smithereens....to erase all data beyond recovery.!!!

but other members may have different ideas and i will be really interested to know.
