Bob,

You have some type of corruption in your DUN system.  You need to
UNinstall the Dial Up Networking, completely reboot the PC, and then
reinstall the DUN.  Make sure you write down all the current settings
before you uninstall.

Changing that speed setting will have absolutely no affect on what is
happening on the modem and telephone lines.  We have had two or three
LENGTHY discussions on this particular topic just since the beginning of
the year --- so I HOPE this doesn't spawn a new round of the same old
comments.  But here goes...... this speed setting only controls the speed
at which the CPU communicates with the COMM port (which is built into the
modem) and therefore, it has no control OR affect on what happens with the
telephone line or the modem.  This setting should be left at the highest
level..... always.
