Recently I needed to share my ThinkPad 760EL notebook (P120). I set up a
profile for myself and another for the person I was sharing with (by
logging on under two different names). When I finished sharing I just set
TWEAKUI to logon using my name and password. I didn't think more of it
until I tried a program that is supposed to backup the registry. It backed
up the USER.DAT that is under c:\windows\ and not the one under
c:\windows\Profiles\(myname)\. I now want to return to a "one user"
machine but retain all my individual settings.
My question is: will I be able to retain all my settings by copying all
the subdirectories and their files under c:\windows\Profiles\(myname)\ to
the appropriate places? Should I do this in Windows GUI or would it be
necessary to copy in DOS command line mode? The subdirectories and files are:
\Application Data (with data for Microsoft address book, Outlook Express,
and IE
\Cookies (with my Cookies)
\Desktop (with my desktop icons)
\History (with IE history files)
\Nethood (empty)
\Recent (with links to recently used Documents)
\Start Menu (with one link that is apparently added to my other Start Menu
programs)
and my current USER.DAT and USER.DA0 files
TIA
