The first steps in troubleshooting system crashes should always be to run
the SCANDISK and DISK DEFRAGMENTER programs (in that order). Both of these
utilities can be found by clicking:
START - PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - SYSTEM TOOLS
The STANDARD MODE (not thorough) for scandisk should take less than 5
minutes to complete.
The disk defragmenter takes much longer. Depending on the size of the disk
and the amount of fragmentation, it could take several hours.
