I am having problems installing programs on my computer. I have a
Gateway 266 with the Pentium II, and 96 Ram. And running WIN 98
upgraded from WIN95.When I put a dish in frive D I get the following D:\
is not accessible. When I try to do it from “run” I get File D:\ set
up.exe can not be found.. On Boot I am getting the following
message.Windows Expanded Memory Driver Version 4.95
EMM386 not installed-XMS manager not present
And then I also get
Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run Windows or a Windows
application.
The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but
the device file no longer exists
If you deleted this file on purpose ( I didn’t) try uninstalling the
associated application (?) using its uninstall or setup program.
If you still want to use the application associated with this device
file try reinstalling that application to replace the missing files.
When I go into check the device drives it lists drive D as working
properly. And when I put in the Win 98 disc to add something from
windows set up it runs fine. But if I try to install programs from CD’s
that have run before ,no luck.
Now my question ,of course, is what am I suppose to do ?
