  A .zip file is an archive containing one or more compressed files.  So you 
need something that knows how to uncompress the contents into "real" files 
for Windows.  (XP includes this capability built in, but older versions of 
Windows didn't.)

  The most popular choice is WinZip -- I believe you can still get a free 
trial version from www.winzip.com .  There are other choices out there, and 
some prefer one or another.

  Once you get the .zip file "unpacked", there will probably be a 
"setup.exe" or other installer program there to set up the various folders, 
shortcuts and registry entries needed to make pixresizer usable.
