I have had several doctors, dentists, chiropractors, etc approach me with
the same questions.
There are quite a few software packages that will do what your client asks
for. They are predominately Unix based, although some have been/are being
ported to NT.
My experiences in this area resulted in these findings.
They will not sell to a consultant or reseller. They sell only to the end
user.
The multi-user package costs are typically in the $10,000US price range.
(With 8 satellite offices, I wouldn't be surprised if the final bill is
around $15-18,000.)
They all *require* VERY expensive annual "support" contracts ($1000 and
up).
Most of them _insist_ that the doctor also buy *ALL* hardware from them.
They do not like "outsiders". Every one I called, ranged from
uncooperative to hostile once they found out I was not a member of the
medical community.
I also found that there are several really nice single-user SHAREWARE
packages that run within Windows 9x. You can do a search at
www.shareware.com or any search engine and see what's available.

Dear List: I have a client who has 9 chelation therapy clinics throughout
NE GA. He is in need of a program that will do the following:
1. Maintain a medical treatment and laboratory database
2. Maintain an inventory database
3. Provide for invoicing based on treatment codes and inventory
items
4. Bookkeeping records maintaining value of assets (inventory and
fixed assets), income and expenses, profit and loss, checking, etc.
5. Preferably Windows based and user friendly
6. Must be networkable in that the 8 satellite offices would
download data to a server each evening. An additional download to server
function would therefore be very desirable.
A big plus and secondary feature would be a statistical program that would
run from treatment/laboratory database (i.e. patient with complaint
chemical levels of "x" had chemical levels of "x" after "x" treatments).
I don't know if this is possible or if a secondary program would be
necessary. Seems like there ought to be some Access based program already
marketed to do these things.
He is currently running QBPro and keeping paper based treatment records
and is contemplating having this type of program written. This is outside
my expertise so programmers may want to get in touch. TIA
