Sounds to me like a prank he's inadvertently downloaded. Hitting Esc might
kill it.

If so, chances are that it's put itself into the startup chain. Run
Msconfig and he may be able to identify it from there and then eliminate
it. Otherwise, it might be a slow and painful process. Presumably he's
updated and run both Spybot and AdAware, though that's a long chance.
