I have discovered that these two lines in a Word macro will
open the Excel file I want.

 Dim taskID As Variant
 taskID = Shell("Excel.EXE E:\myexcelfile.XLS", 3)

What I would like to do now is check if that file is open
first, as this macro will open an additional copy of Excel
should Excel be already running when the macro is operated.

Would welcome any help here; is Shell() the correct command
to use as I have also come across
GetObject("E:\myexcelfile.XLS")?

Regards

Tony
