Two things. One, I found a web site that may be of help:

Two, there is a keyboard alternative that works on American keyboards -- I
don't know if it works on European keyboards, but it is certainly worth a
try:
1. hold down either Alt key
then - (on the numeric keypad only!!!)
2. type: 0128 (this brings up what I think is the euro symbol)
