Rick,

First CONFIG.SYS is executed and all drivers listed are installed.
Next AUTOEXEC.BAT is run and all the commands listed within are loaded -in
order.
Third, Windows is starts loading and any RUN commands buried in the System
Registry are executed.
Finally Windows itself completes loading.

You can watch the process yourself, by pressing the F8 key AS SOON AS you
see the message about WINDOWS STARTING (I've forgotten the exact wording at
the moment.)  Have your finger on the key -- you only have 2-3 seconds to
accomplish this.

If you were fast enough, you should now see a menu.  Pick the option to
start using STEP BY STEP (again, I'm not sure of the exact wording).

Now just press Y for yes at each question.
