I got some answers about the same from another list that 98 SE doesn't like
the sound drivers that came with the mobo (PCCHIPS M575).They have new
Win98 drivers at their site, www.pcchips.com. I have downloaded some new
drivers, but didn't install them yet, because someone told me to try
something else. It worked so far, but I am saving your instructions and the
new drivers.
Go to multimedia in control panel. On the audio tab, check "Use only
preferred devices", and select as the preferred device on "Playback" and
"Recording" "SB16 Playback (220).
