I am assuming your friend has a fax program on his computer. I would look at
the software for his fax program and perhaps uninstall it and then reinstall
it. It could be something in the setup of his modem re the software. Can you
set the number of rings before the fax program picks up? This might also
solve the problem. Windows ME unfortunately does not behave well with some
older software.
