Hello and thank you for the help you give to many many people out here in the free world!
My problem is with so much spam and popup advertisements that are driving me crazy. I tried Elizabeth's (computer lady) method and ran into a problem.
I have WindowsXP, by the way....
Her answer to another person with the same problem was as follows:
1. click on "Start" then "Control Panel," "Performance & Maintenance,"
    "Administrative Tool," and "Services."
2. This will openup the "Serices" window. Scroll down the list of services
until you find "Messenger" and double-click on Messenger.
3. In the Messenger Properties window, click on the "Genera" tab and next
to "Startup Type" select "Disabled". then, under Service Status click Stop.
4. Click "OK". This should stop all messenger spam.

Problem is in #3, last step. The Service Status is grayed out and I cannot
click Stop, therefore cannot finish the procedure and eliminate Spam and Popup ads.
Can you tell me how to overcome this or will I have to install something like Symantec Internet Securtiy and do a selective installation? I have the Symantec program disc but I just recently took it out because it was causing me so many other problems. If I could install it selectively that would be fine with me.
