 After much hacking I managed
to discover the code that launches the program: ./xwp, but to get to it, I
have to "cd" my way to /usr/local/CorelWord/wpbin/ then enter the ./xwp
command. Can anyone explain how to make a shortcut to it? preferably a
desktop icon.

snip

If you are using a desktop such a Gnome you can open you file
explorer(GMC in Gnome) and make sure you can see the desktop and the
file in the /usr/local/CorelWord/wpbin that starts wordperfect. Use
your middle mouse button (or hold both if you are emulating 3 buttons)
and drag the file to the desktop. You should get a menu that says
"copy, move, link, cancel" choose "link" and you should have an icon on
your desktop. Don't left click drag or it will move the whole file.
You can also (in Gnome) right click the desktop and chose "New -
launcher "and type in the file address, then choose application. If
you are using a terminal you can use the ln command with the -s switch.
In a terminal type man ln and read the material to create the link.
Basically move to the desktop directory and issue the command "ln -s
(wordperfect file location)" and it should put the link on the desktop.
Normal Disclaimer...this worked in RedHat 7.1. Hope it helps
