Mike,
AddPrinter wizard icon is back. After the
"rundll32.exe sysdm.cpl,InstallDevice_Rundll printer"
all the programs started to communicate with the printer again. The
rundll32... printer command identified our printer as "copy 2", although
all the programs (Eudora, MSWord, Netscape, WP) had lost all the knowledge
of any printer (no default printer) and the printer itself was 'ready'.
Trying to print was the surest way to freeze the machine - we could not
even get as far as the window to choose the printer.
After we re-established the communication with our default printer, the
AddPrinter wizard still looked inactive, but after we clicked on View and
unchecked "as a web page" (little viri-gremlins set it that way?:-)) it
was restored to its original glory. That was puzzling, as we experimented
on another win98 machine to view the printers' windows "as web page" and
it did not cause the printers' icons to disappear.
Thanks again and best wishes,
Irena.
