Paul,

You need a new battery.  Look for a large cylinder (about 1cm x 2 1/2cm) near
the keyboard connector on the motherboard.  That will be your dead battery.
Near it, there should be a four pin inline connector with a jumper on two
pins.  That is where you can connect an external battery.

You may have a motherboard that uses a DALLAS module instead of a separate
battery.  The DALLAS module contains both the battery and the clock circuitry.
This device is usually a black rectangle with DALLAS stamped on the top (about
1cm x 3cm x 7mm high).
