I too had horrible exprience with Norton Anti virus when I tried to
uninstall it. Finally formating the HD was easier than removing all traces
of NAV.
Now I have moved to AVG as my anti virus program. it is self updating.

I was amazed what it took (registry editing) to remove Norton Antivirus from
my registry after I uninstalled an older version.
