Depending on your level of patches and security settings, this might work.
(It has worked for me for a very long time.)
Note that the following will "generally" activate any "WEB bugs" (tracking
graphics) so if possible, do this while NOT connected.
Select the message and "start" a forward of the message. (You do not have
to "finish" the forward or actually send it anywhere. Just cancel your way
out when finishing up...)
Try to open the attachment there. You might get two or three dialog boxes
with various questions. Keep "drilling down" until you get to the opened
attachment... YMMV.
