PC Magazine provided a simple, elegant and free program called "Slice" in
1989. Besides being extremely small, it does not require any specific
program other than MS-DOS to be used by another PC - if your desire is to
provide a copy of the file on another machine.
It will split any type of file (wp, spreadsheet, graphic, exe, com, etc)
onto as many diskettes as required. It also write a miniature program on the
first diskette called "Splice". This program allows the split file to be
reassembled wherever you want it placed.
If you can't find the program on the ZDNet/PC Mag utilities archives, let me
know and I'll send you the zipped file - with a text file describing how to
use it. The zip file is only 4Kb. That's right, only 4k.
