I had been following this thread and found it interesting that a Word empty
file is larger than one containing certain entries. However, you still seem
to indicate a confusion regarding a "LINK". You can link a picture to the
document, or you can insert the picture into the document. A link does not
embed the image, while inserting it does. If you place a link in the
document and then delete or move the image, your document will no longer
display the image.

The document size mystery deserves some more investigation I think.
