Recently I had was working on an emulation system for someone. An old
HD-less Dell that boots & runs app off floppy. I used my PC (PC1, win2k)
to make some edits to this systems boot disk. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Well today, I needed to pull some old MS Works files off a very old floppy
(early win95 days). When I read the floppy, it showed the contents of the
above-mentioned bootdisk! Refreshing did not help. No matter what floppy
I now place in drive, same thing occurs. Ran virus check on system &
floppy, and nothing was detected.

Now, while running virus check on PC1 I took the floppy I need to PC2
(win98se) and was able to read it okay. Contents are old MS card files and
an *.mdb (I think pre 2k) that I had created to consolidate said card
files. I xfered the *.mdb to PC1 to work on. I then made the mistake of
reading the orignal offending disk on PC2. And, well, can you guess? My
original floppy with the old files (along with any other floppy) now shows
the contents of the bootdisk!! Cold booting, accessing drive under DOS,
refreshes, swaps does not help. Somehow, my old data got overwritten while
on PC2 (why didn't this happen while on PC1, I don't know). BTW, no virii
detected on PC2 either.

And another thing, I can't open the *.mdb I transferred because, silly me,
I didn't xfer the attending *.dbf files.

So my questions are, one, what happened? Some undetectable virus? And
two, how can I open the mdb files. When ever I try, Access tells me it
can't find object *.dbf. I really need to get to that data. Is all
loss? Am I f.......? My next born (provided it's not a girl; can't seem
to breed daughters) to anyone that can help. TIA.
