Subject: system restore quit
---I have discovered recently that my System Restore program is not working.
There are no restore points since Dec. 10 2003 !! When I try to create a new
point the program reverts back to the Dec. date and will not create a new
point.
I have gone into Control Panel > Sys. Props.> Performance tab and confirmed
the
" Disable Sys. Restore " box is NOT checked.. I am very happy that I have
not had to use the program yet but I do want it available!
Specs. = E-Mach -- Win.ME--800MHz--20 gig hd ( 11.26 free )-- 192 MB Mem
If I have omitted any required info please advise. Any help will be greatly
appreaciated. Jim---
It sounds like the limit to the amount of disc space that system restore
uses has been reached. System restore will use a percentage, usually a
maximum of 12%. You have probably reached that maximum based on the
description of the problem and the size of your HDD. One suggestion you can
try, if you are reasonably confident of the state of your system, (I'm
guessing that if you have had no problems since 12/10/2003, then your system
is stable) is to clean out all but the last restore point. Go to 'Start',
'All Programs', 'Accessories', 'System Tools', 'Disk Cleanup' (in XP) and
after scanning click on the "More Options" tab and look for the option to
"......free more disc space by removing all but most recent retore point".
This should enable system restore to start up again with archiving more
recent restore points. HTH.
