It has been my experience that, without judicious, regular cleanup, the
assigned percentage of the hard disk will 'fill up', and this will choke
browser performance. Additionally, deleting Temporary Internet Files and
clearing the History folder from the tabbed dialogs under IE's
"View"->"Options" menu will not always flush out the 'deadwood'. Just as an
'experiment', today I cleared the contents of the History folder from the
tabbed dialog, then closed the browser. I 'drilled down' to
c:\windows\history and opened it to discover that 343 links had not been
"cleared."

To be certain of a complete cleanup I have saved a "Find files or folders"
search for cache1 cache2 cache3 cache4 in c:\windows\Temporary Internet
Files. This is saved on the desktop. I execute it, then open all four found
caches. Using ctrl+a, then shift+delete I delete the files in each cache.
Alt+space, then c to close. (Reasonably quick action). After cache cleanup,
I highlight Temporary Internet Files in the 'Look in' line, then ctrl+x to
cut; click on the 'look for' line to highlight, then ctrl+v to paste. Do
'find now', then open the Temporary Internet Files folder. There are (almost
always) several cookies still left over (crumbs?<g>). Ctrl+a, then
shift+delete, then alt+space, then c. Press tab, type history, click 'find
now', hit enter to open folder, then ctrl+a, shift+delete, then alt+space,
then c. Finally, tab, type recent, click 'find now', enter, ctrl+a, then
shift+delete, alt+space, c. Having had some frequent practice, I've become
fairly quick at this procedure. "It's stone-axe, but it works."

There is a shareware utility called cache killer pro which does basically
the same thing, but in a far more elegant manner . . . 'course, after the
eval. period, ya gotta pay fer it. Being terminally stingy, I didn't want to
shell out the bux, so I did uninstall it. It worked pretty well, though.

Just a bit more than my $.02 . . . hope it was worth it to someone.
