Someone already mentioned that it could be a message that's bigger than
the max size you've set in your Preferences, but the possibility also
exists that Messenger has simply gotten out of sync with the server.
This sync info is stored in a file called popstate.dat, usually found in
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\User\default\Mail.

Deleting this file before starting Messenger will cause the file to be
recreated, and Messenger will query the server to get current mail
status. Be advised that any mail that's been read and intentionally left
on the server will once again appear as 'new' when using this method.
