There are a bunch of things that can ask for the dial up network or DUN
connection to come up. You most likely have something set to check for an
update, upgrade, or maybe the computer is trying to connect a networked hard
drive. It can run from the operating system to any software you have installed
on the computer with the ability to check information for itself. If you just
want to kill it then go to Internet Options in the Control panel, then
Connections tab and click the Never Dial option. Click apply and then ok. I
think that will stop it.

The question is what have you been installing? Check there and you will most
likely find the software that needs the network connection.

Oh yea, one other wonderful experience with the DUN appearing. I had a virus
once and the DUN appeared many times trying to connect and send out e-mail. I
was very glad I did not have the DUN set to automatically connect when every a
connection was needed. I would have made a lot of people mad. Especially me!
