I think the problem here is that you have now got a corrupted registry and
need to get rid of all of the pieces of Shockwave that are still left after
you uninstalled it. If you don't use RegClean 3.0 or some other utility like
it , I would suggest that you down load it from ZDnet. Run this and Scandisk
and Defrag before attempting another download. You should also get a copy of
GetRight, which will allow the download to continue if there is an
interruption and you will have more success with them. I have found that any
time Windows can not figure out what to do, this message comes up about it
not being a 32 bit application. I don't think that is the case.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Shockwave
Greetings, Listers!
Confounded?! Downloaded Dreamweaver demo via ZDnet. Suggested to download
Shockwave, went for it. System hungup part way thru download. Went back to
repair...no dice. Folder in downloads says "not a 32 bit application". Must
be a 16 bit. How do I get the ability for both? Or can I? Tried uninstall,
reinstall...same situation.
System-win 98SE
