The same thing happens to me when I use the "normal" row of numbers above
the keyboard.  You MUST use the numbers on the keypad, not the other ones.
It does not matter if the Num Lock is on or not.  Hold down the Alt key and
press the three numbers and when you release the Alt key, the symbol will
appear.
