There is no DOS mode in Windows XP. From you description
I think You have CD version what autoruns on Win95 computers
so first thing to try is create desktop shortcut to game's .exe
file and change shortcut compatibility parameters to Win95, but I
doubt that it will work. Another option is make DOS boot floppy
what supports CD (if it is CD game). If game is in HD then
game must be on FAT32 partition. Then it is possible to use
PC emulators like VMWare Workstation or Microsoft Virtual PC.
Last two solutions require that You have DOS floppies somewhere
and emulators are not free. I would recommend to try open source
project DOSBox what is DOS emulator. According to its homepage
it seems that Silent Hunter is supported (but possibly not fully unlike my
Lemmings) with latest versions.

I'm pretty sure someone answered this before, but I lost the answer and don't
know if there are any PCSOFT archives to check. I have an old game from 98
that I believe should run in DOS mode. When I try to run it, I get an error
about the "autorun.exe" not working, needing to send an error report to
Microsoft. I thought someone answered a question re this about a program that
converts or allows old games (original Silent Hunter) to be run on a newer OS
(WIN XP Home). Can anyone help?
