I own a Matrox G200 Marvel 16 megs with TV out. I am a CSPAN CNN junkie
and I use it for watching TV in a window and occasionally recording a 30
minute show using the Matrox video tools. Recorded quality is great but 30
minutes of recording equals 1.5 GB of hard drive space. I would like to
record something this weekend for digital archival that is 120 minutes
ling... which means 6 GB worth of hard drive space! I understand I can then
use third party software to reduce the size of the video file but with what
software and how ..to what format ?
Working with video is completely new to me. At this point I am not really
interested in editing....maybe to cut out a commercial but I don't own or
use a video camera and don't see myself making movies. Do I have to use
the Matrox video tools for the TV turner and recording ? Is there a better
way to do the recording ? Is there a way to get the file size down small
enough to archive it on a CD?
What is the best software for this sort of thing?
Are there any good FAQs or web pages for working with video and DVD
recording and archiving etc ?
thanks
