OFFICE XP is conforms to the NT operating environment way of thinking, so it
should have an expectation of multiple users. This leads to the
proliferation of current user and default user settings which win9x never
much cared about. In OFFICE XP you are looking for a folder something like

c:\documents and settings\???\application
data\microsoft\templates\normal.dot

where ??? is the username you use to logon to windows networking. I am
using office on a Win2000 Pro system. Your setup could be different under a
different version of Windows.
The file name remains normal.dot so you can use 'Start,Search' to find it.
Be aware that this will only change the template for one user on the pc. I
am told that you can make global changes to all new users (no word on
existing ones) by logging into win2000 or winxp as the local administrator
and configuring Office. As new users for that pc add Office to their
desktop they will get the changes.

Thanks, but in my Office XP, normal.dot is not in the templates folder. When
I do a search for normal.dot, nothing comes up. Any other ideas? I know I
can create a new template, but I want the default to be changed.
