I think the problem here that is not being seen is that once upon a time,
there was an option somewhere in the options for Internet Explorer or in
Dialup Networking which said "Connect to the Internet as needed" as has
been said by Elizabeth. This caused DUN to automatically dial your chosen
connection when you requested information that required a connection to the
Internet - such as starting Internet Explorer. I remember seeing that
option and setting it on more than one computer that was using IE3 and
Windows 95. I am now using IE4, Windows 95a and DUN 1.3 on my computer and
I can no longer find an option that says this.

It may be contained implicitly in the option that Paul has mentioned below
-- "Connect to the Internet using a modem" but there is no way to check
since turning the option off makes IE attempt to find use a LAN to connect
to the Internet. It appears also from what Salina is saying that the
"connect to the Internet using a modem" option does NOT also enable
automatic dialing. This is what Salina is looking for and I am unable to
find it any more either.

I think that we are talking about different methods of doing this with
different setups and the options are no longer the same.
