Carol,

You are not alone in this world. I am on DSL and I also often leave my
internet connection on. I have both Avast and Zone alarm. I get the message
from Avast almost every morning when I first approach my computer, that my
internet connection timed out while Avast was trying to get out. I have no
idea why it does this, since it will connect to it's site and update when it
has to during the day even when I'm not connected to a specific internet
site. Perhaps it just gets lonely during the wee hours of the morning and no
one is on the computer. I initially found it annoying, but now I use it as a
reminder each morning to click the Avast ball icon and manually update both
the data and program files to catch any changes between the auto updates. I
don't believe it is your Zone Alarm since mine is set to allow Avast total
Internet access. If you find this occurrence too annoying you might want to
contact Avast web site for advice.
